The Teacher: Day 7, part 2

John 3:14b

“…even so must the Son of man be lifted up”

The Israelites were under the threat of physical death, but were asked to believe God’s word and look upon the serpent which was lifted up in their midst and thereby receive healing.  So Jesus, the Son of Man on a far higher plane, offers healing from spiritual death.  Men perishing with spiritual death are asked to believe God’s revelation and look in faith to Christ who would be lifted up on a cross and would ultimately ascend to the Father’s right hand.  The blessed result for believing men would be eternal life.”  Quote by ‘Kent Jr., ‘Homer A. ‘Light in the ‘Darkness

The Heart of The Gospel

Verse 15 “That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life,”  KJ

Verse 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  KJ

Verse 17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”  KJ

Verse 18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”  KJ

Verse 19 “And this is the  condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”  KJ

Verse 20 “For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”  KJ

Verse 21 “But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.”  KJ

My comment on verses 15-21 is this….God’s promise is that “whoever believes” in Christ will be redeemed.  The consequence for rejecting Christ is to perish.   The emphasis….Believe on the hope of salvation…….

John the “B’s” Testimony To Jesus’ Greatness

If you have not read John 3:22-36, please do.

What was John the Baptist’s response to his disciples, who were jealous of Jesus drawing people across the Jordan?

Again in verse 28, John reminds his disciples that he is not the Christ and only sent to prepare the way for Him.  I love what John says in verses 29-30.  I will quote it from the NIV.  “The bride belongs to the bridegroom.  The friend who attends the bridegroom waits and listens for him, and is full of joy when he hears the bridegroom’s voice.  That joy is mine, and it is now complete.  He must become greater; I must become less.”

John was perfectly content and joyful to do what God sent him into the world to do…..to prepare the way for Jesus….

I will leave you with something beautiful…..verse 36a……BELIEVE
