I really believe, for me, studying the book of John is going to be an extension of my Bible study “God Has A Plan and A Purpose For Your Life”. I am seeking to bring my life down, even closer in my relationship with my Lord, my God. The more I study the word, the more I realize that it is my relationship with Him that matters above all else. I am so very drawn to three words….follow, receive and believe. I believe that God is going to reveal so much, in light of what I am seeking. I pray that God would facilitate an inward journey for me, and for you through Jesus….. “The Teacher”.
Day 4, for me, was an acknowledgement of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. He is the Word become flesh, sent from the Father and He is full of grace and truth. Now we will learn from Jesus, as He begins to teach. I want to acknowledge my willingness to answer the call to follow Jesus, my amazing “Teacher”. This is my calling, to follow Jesus. It is your calling too.
If you have not, please read John chapter 2. As you read scripture, write down questions that you have and/or any particular words or phrases that catch your attention. Remember, there are no silly questions or silly thoughts. If you are thinking it, someone else probably is also. Another thing to remember is this: The Holy spirit speaks to us when we hear, read or study the scripture. He speaks to me, He speaks to you. Trust Him!
We Are Witnessing Christ’s First Miracle
John 2:1-11
Jesus and his new disciples were invited to a wedding in Cana. Mary, his mother, was there also. It was Mary who brought the news to Jesus that, “the wine was all gone”. I wonder why it was so important to Mary that Jesus know this? Do you think that it was put in her heart to bring the news to Jesus, or do you think she wanted everyone to know “just who her son was”? Probably doesn’t matter. I was just wondering.
Answer the following questions:
1. At whose insistence was Jesus’ first public miracle performed?______________________________________
2. What was the miracle?______________________________________________________________________
3. Why did Jesus did Jesus perform this miracle? ___________________________________________________
Of course, it was Mary who insisted. But, I don’t think Jesus would have done it without purpose. Do you? The miracle was “turning water into wine”. But, Jesus not only turned the water into wine….He used six stone water jars, the kind used by the ‘Jews for ceremonial washing…and they each held 20 to 30 gallons…and it was the” good stuff”. Well, that’s what the scripture says!
How amazing that God reveals his glory in such places ~~ a stable in Bethlehem ~~ the Jordan river ~~a wedding in Cana ~~ a cross on Golgotha. As if Jesus presence was not enough at this wedding, he blessed it with good wine when they ran out….and an abundance of it. God’s glory knows no limits.
verse 11 tells us this: “This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his glory, and his disciples believed on him.” KJ The NIV says, “…He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.”
I think we have a theme goin’ on here……revealing his glory….follow…….believe…….faith…….receive…..Where’s my little “Looking For Something Beautiful
I think we will end here today. I want to ponder on this first miracle. For further consideration as to why Jesus performed miracles read Mark 2:10-11. I believe, pertaining to this first miracle, that it was important to Jesus for his new disciples to see the glory of God and believe in him. Don’t you?
