“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.” James 3:13-18 NIV
Yesterday, my husband and I were studying material for a workshop we will teach soon in Egypt. Sometimes when we study a subject and begin to apply it to our own lives, we find that it will bring up issues in our hearts (divine revelation). I suddenly became very aware in my spirit that I needed to take a “time out” to search my heart concerning “my motives” in my “deeds done” for God. Am I seeking to serve Him out of a need to “feel valuable” or am I seeking to serve Him in “humility”? Am I searching for an “unfulfilled need” in me or am I “testifying” for My God who is “fulfilling all my needs”? The reason I am asking myself these questions, is that it was pointed out to me that perhaps I am trying to do ”many things” in the name of God, as opposed to seeking the wisdom that comes from above and doing ”one thing” well for God that is “first of all pure”.
Ponder with me today about this…What ONE thing can we ”do well” for God? Perhaps, we would have more time to spend time with Him. Perhaps, we would have more time to spend “quality time” with our mates and our families. Perhaps, we would have less stress. Perhaps, there would be less disorder in our lives. Perhaps, we would spend less time searching for those unfulfilled needs in our lives. Perhaps, we would find that God would fulfill all of our needs! AMEN!
