A Change In Plans
Isn’t it ”crazy” how our well thought out plans can be changed in an instant. My husband and I were supposed to leave this Sunday for Cairo, Egypt. We were going there to teach at a marriage retreat and a relationship workshop. And of course, do a little sight seeing. Last week, one of our employees had an emergency surgery in their immediate family. Two days ago, my husband’s 93 year old mother fell and broke three bones in her foot. You can see where this is going, can’t you? These “events” made it very difficult for us to leave the country and be gone for “several days”. So, we cancelled plane tickets and settled in, to ride that ever changing “roller coaster” of life around another curve, possibly down the steep hill that leaves your “tummy” up top, but eventually stops at the end of “this ride”. At the end of my life I just wanna say, “Wow, what a ride!”
My thought today is that I am so glad that “My God” is “Un-Changeable!”. This is the “Certainty of God’s Promise!”………
“When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, saying, “I will surely bless you and give you many descendants.” And so after waiting patiently, Abraham received what was promised. Men swear by someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts an end to all argument. Because God wanted to make the “UNCHANGING” nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, he confirmed it with an oath. God did this so that, by two “UNCHANGEABLE” things in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled to take hold of the hope offered to us may be greatly encouraged. We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. It enters the inner sanctuary behind the curtain, where Jesus, who went before us, has entered on our behalf. He has become a high priest forever……”
Hebrews 6:13-20 NIV
God’s promises are guaranteed and UNCHANGEABLE through His trusted character. “He swore by himself for there was no one greater for Him to swear by.” The two unchangeable things were His promise and His oath. It is “impossible for Him to lie“. His promise is sure and the hope offered to us should “greatly encourage us“. This hope is “an anchor for our soul, and is firm and secure“. He truly is “UNCHANGING” and “UNCHANGEABLE”. AMEN!
