God did give you an incredible gift of a 2nd Mom who loves you as if you were hers. She loves you and your family and Kate’s family. You both are a great comfort to her.
When God shuts a door, he opens a window. Your Mom, Patty, was so brave in her fight. I remember your Dad calling Deryl one night when your Mom was in Columbia Hospital. We lived in KC, then. Your Dad was having a rough time and Deryl left at 10 pm to drive to Columbia to be with your Mom and Dad. We were so glad to be close enough for him to get there quickly. We have wonderful and goofy memories with them both.
